Carl (Color)
On Thursday I walked into the class that has the student named Carl who thinks his name is Color. Carl was standing behind his chair, which is unusual because he is normally seated and ready for class.
I said, "What's up, Carl?"
He answered, "I love you."
Awkward.
I didn't know quite how to reply to that, so I didn't. When I didn't say anything I guess Carl thought I didn't hear him, so he repeated the "I love you."
I was rescued by the class doofus, named Shawn, when he said, "Hello teacher. Nice to meet you. Are you my mother? You are a very bad teacher." Shawn's sentences are all in the English books the class uses with the Korean teachers, and none of the students know what they mean. The kids here are really good at memorizing their books, but as Shawn proves, they don't know how to use the sentences in their heads.
Carl really doesn't know much English, so I'm guessing he was doing like Shawn and he just said a random English phrase that he had memorized.
