The beach
I went to the beach yesterday with Nicole and her friend, Tara. It is a nice beach, but it was unusual for me because it didn't have any waves. You'd think this would make it ideal for swimming. But Nicole told me that the lifeguards all wear life jackets, and they panic and yell at you if you get into water deep enough so you feet don't touch the ocean floor. The weather was so nice there . It was about 70 degrees and sunny. The Koreans there were more annoying than usual. Almost every one that we came across had test test out their "Harrow, wery nice to see you akin" or the simpler "Harrow, rude-bye." We went into a convenience store to get something to drink and an elderly man with no teeth and glazed-over eyes took a shining to me. He followed me around saying "ok" then laughing. He wasn't annoying because he was being nice. The others that yell "Harrow" think they're being funny. Despite the harrows, it was a good time.
Afterwards, we wanted to find this place called the foreign compound. I guess a lot of Canadians and Australians live in my city and they decided to form a coummunity a long time ago. We didn't find it last night, but it supposedly looks exactly like a Western style community. We ended up at a restuarant owned by a British guy. He's been in Korea for 18 years. He was a nice man. He gave all three of us a business card and told us that if we ever needed anything to give him a call. He kept on telling us he has a warehouse full of western goods, and he "gives" he doesn't "sell." There really isn't anything I want from him, but the offer was very nice. I got a steak sandwich at the restaurant, and Ryan would be should be happy to know it was actually a sandwich.
On the bus ride back to our homes there was a Korean man who couldn't stay awake. His head kept fall back and slamming into the metal rod on the back of his seat. He'd then violently jerk his head up to only let it fall a few seconds later. He finally wised up after about ten minutes and changed his seating position. His falling head was now leading his body into the isle. So for the rest of the ride home he was continually saving himself from crumpling into the middle of the walkway.
