I've been dumped
I have been dating a Korean girl for the last month. We got together mainly because she wanted to improve her English and I wanted to have someone teach me Korean. We were spending as much time together as her schedule would permit. She went to school from 7:00am to 10:00pm Monday through Saturday (I'm glad I didn't go to school here). So we pretty much only had Sundays. And Sundays consisted of her telling me I had a butter face than Brad Pitt (I think she must have gone to the Butter English school), and me trying to match that with a "well you have a better face than...a pretty Korean actress." She often told me how her parents would kill her if they found out she was with me (most Koreans live with their parents until they're married). One day I asked what her parents did for a living. She said her mom stayed home and her dad did something that she didn't know how to say in English, but he used to be a professional boxer. I then asked, "After your parents kill you, will they come after me?" She looked at me like I was crazy and said, "Yeah."
As of last Sunday, there wasn't really much to write home about, so I didn't. But last Monday we had our first kiss. "Eternity was in our lips and eyes,Bliss in our brows' bent; none our parts so poorBut was a race of heaven" (Shakespeare). I don't know what that quote means, but I needed something to fill space from the sentence before it to the one you're about to read. We also made the mistake of taking a stroll through town earlier in the day. The next day, Yuna, that's her name I can't believe it took me this long to realize I haven't told you yet, called me crying and told me that her a friend of her mom had spotted us going into my apartment. Apparently, Yuna had now disgraced the family's name by not only going into the residence of a single male, but the residence of a single male American devil.
I think it was my land lady that told her mom. This landlady also owns the store across the street and she ripped me off on some instant noodles when I first arrived to Korea. She was the only person around when we went into my place and she had a big smile on her face. And since then she always gets a big "you won't let me jip you on noodles, so I'll invade your personal business" type of smile. You know that kind?
I thought Yuna might be up to sneaking behind her parents' back again, but, alas, I haven't heard from her since that tearful call. I hope she wasn't serious about her parents killing her, because that means I have a retired Korean boxer after me.
